Plans change! Have you ever heard that? Or, maybe you have said it yourself.
My angel was one of those plans that changed.
Drawings certainly don’t always end up the way you first plan. They tend to have a personality of their own. Art is fun that way. It’s creative, continually changing and flowing.
Drawing an angel
I started this angel with a certain picture in mind. As I drew her, she began to take shape in a quite a different way. A friend of ours told me once that it is a special time in your drawing when all of the sudden your eye starts to see the image in your picture. At first I kind of knew what he meant but now I really get it. There is such a cool moment when I am drawing a picture when I realize what it is that I’m trying to draw!
At first I’m just trying to put the general outline down. Then I start adjusting the dimension, or the right size. Then I start in the details. That’s when the fun begins. That’s when I catch myself seeing where I want a detail. It suddenly takes shape in my eye and down to the paper. Then it’s a matter of focusing on that image and getting my hand and pencil to make it look like what my mind’s eye is picturing. Sometimes that’s a very frustrating moment because I know what I want but don’t have the skills of experience to get it right on paper.
This was the first draft of my angel. I knew it was not what I wanted, in fact, I felt it was pretty darn ugly!
Change – oh no!
Here’s where the change came to play, and I started to see my angel in a new light. I have to admit that I am not totally convinced that this angel is even what I really want, but it is what came out of the first draft.
I will try another angel sometime soon. Honestly, I will probably try several. I want to have a wide variety of Christmas drawings, even of the same subject. Remember that when you start a project, it may not be what you end up with. Change happens, many times for the better. It’s OK!
I found out I enjoy drawing snowmen too. I’ve posted another page about my snowman, or snowmen since there are several different drawings of a snowman. Come check it out!
Come to my page of other drawings I have done. Some are good, some…not so much, but hey, they are mine! Here’s the link. Just click on it: Fun Things I Have Drawn
I also have pages of books that I use to help me with my drawing skills. Take a look. I’d love to help others enjoy drawing as much as I do. Here are some links for you:
